In addition, the students will have an opportunity to participate in a field trip experience sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The students will travel by boat onto the Bay in order to dredge for oysters and test water quality.
Service Learning Project:
The 8th Grade Student Service Learning Project focuses on the preservation of the Thomas Viaduct. Our students led a field trip to the Patapsco State Park to work on the area surrounding the Thomas Viaduct. Student groups hiked throughout the Patapsco State Park looking for invasive plants and removing them from the area, along with liter. The Patapsco Heritage Greenway helped the students by providing bags and disposing of all waste. The purpose of the trip is for student groups to contribute the community and the efforts in preserving the State Park.
Students completed the log above as they gathered trash and invasive plants from the area around the Thomas Viaduct. Students were responsible to mark the number of bags they filled, and any observations they saw. At the end of the day, students completed the reflection below. The students' reflections helped them understand the purpose of their contribution to the community.
